Conflict Resolution

Word from New York is that, in light of the added furor over the scheduling conflict, Cardinal Egan has rescheduled tomorrow's emergency meeting of his Presbyteral Council to begin at 1pm at the Residence.

A major concession on Egan's part, the change of plan allows those on the 40-member council who were planning to attend the funeral of Msgr Charles Kelly in Chappaqua to do so without missing the Madison Avenue summit, called in response to last week's anonymous letter calling for a vote of no confidence in the cardinal. Senior official notes that Kelly's funeral was planned after the meeting had been scheduled for 11am; one religious says that the letter has attained "the miraculous": a tide of sympathy for the embattled prelate.
