Live from the West

Two vids from the Left Coast -- first, with his installation in the Emerald City freshly set for 1 December, last week's Appointment Day preach of Seattle's Archbishop-elect Peter Sartain...

...along with fullvid of the traditional introductory presser....

And this morning, at the seat of the largest local church Stateside Catholicism has ever known -- the 5 million-member mega-flock in Los Angeles -- a "when worlds collide" moment in multiple senses: the call-to-arms keynote of Cardinal Roger Mahony's annual prayer breakfast, delivered by the archbishop of New York...

...that said, for all its rouse and uplift, the site of Tim Dolan's Northeast-style boom-lowering can't help one but to (movingly, gratefully) recall Maestro John Flaherty's 13-minute foretaste of Heaven -- the fittingly epic Offertory at May's Welcome Mass for Coadjutor-Archbishop José Gomez (...who, five months before his ascent, has begun revving up over recent weeks).

Ergo, lest we forget the ecclesial equivalent of a full-court Laker press, church, pump up your speakers....

As news goes, lots more over on these pages' new sidekick... thanks again to everyone for a wild launch.
